wifi website coming along nicely
wifimapper.com is slowly but surely nearing completion. It’s a site that will list the locations of free wi-fi hotspots with a particular interest in hotels, cafes and airports.
There are sites like this which exist, but they’re pretty ugly and 90′s looking.
My keyword research leads me to believe this is actually a much smaller niche than you may think. Not many people are searching for ‘wifi hotels’ of ‘hotels with free wifi’ etc… that surprised me but it didn’t put me off creating wifimapper.com.
Having had a look at the competition and thought about the growth potential for wifi related searches, i decided to plough ahead with the site with a view to holding on to it long term. In a few years time, i’d imagine every new mobile phone is gonna have some sort of wifi capability built in. Netbook sales are on the up too…
Most hotels charge you for wi-fi these days and some still only offer cable/ethernet access. That’s gonna change and it’s not a case of ‘if’, it’s a case of ‘when’.
You could argue most serious IT people would have their own portable usb dongle or something for internet access but it gets messy & expensive taking that abroad or cross borders which is when you’re most likely to be staying in a hotel
So for all of those reasons wifimapper.com was born and it’s coming along nicely. I also have a new .ie website in the works which is looking fantastic. Both it and wifimapper.com will probably go live around the same time as things stand.
We’re probably talking another week or so, maybe more depending on how much free time i’ll have between my summer college exams. After these couple of sites are up and running, i’ll work on putting together solid plans for BeerChief version 3. It’s gonna be a mammoth job to oversee and get right but with (potentially) extra investment and an extra pair of hands, it’ll make the job that bit easier
