testing driving Kontera ads..

Yesterday evening i put Kontera Content Link ads on this blog, i’ll be keeping a close eye on them and will probably let them run for the month of September as i understand they take time (up to a couple of weeks) to target properly.
I figured i’ve nothing to lose, the ads don’t take up much/any space and i don’t think they’re in the way.. i’d like a bit of feedback though.. in text advertising is probably the latest form of advertising and i’ve seen it on a number of high profile blogs. So i’ll see if it pays for the little guy or not.
All the ads are orange with double orange lines underneath them, hover over them and you’ll get a little popup ad like this:
I figured it was best to leave the link colour as orange as it blends in nicely to the site. But if you guys think it’s a little confusing/misleading i may change it. Also, i’ve been told the ads could take several weeks to target properly so bare with me if they don’t seem related at the minute, that’s because the Kontera spiders are only just getting a feel for my content.
At the minute, i don’t have a CPC (cost per click) earner and haven’t really had one since Adsense. AuctionAds promised a lot early on but hasn’t delivered (they’re CPA - cost per action). Bidvertiser, Adbrite etc haven’t worked out either. So i’m hoping Kontera can come close to Adsense in terms of targetting and revenue.
By the way, the reason i’m testing these ads here and not on one of my other sites is because in text advertising needs content and lots of it in order to work properly. If i put them on say theleavingcert.com - thats pretty much a static content website so the ads would display, but clicks would eventually drop as people get sick of seeing the same word/ad hyperlinked and they become adblind basically ignoring the ads. As this blog is updated on a daily basis, it’s means new ads are constantly appearing.

Personally I don’t like these ads. I think they really take away from the site, I’ve actually never ran Kontera. It will be interesting to see if you make much from them.

Yeah there’s good and bad sides to them..
the good is that they take up little space, it’s just cut and paste code and the ads are always changing as the content is changing…
the bad is that they might be seen as too much by taking ads into content whereas traditionally, ads are kept to the right/left of the content.
i’ll how it goes anyway..

Not a fan of the ads here either. They are annoying pop-ups and are quite irritating. They interfere with the reading of the post when they pop up.
I don’t think you should have them the same colour as your links.
Your month of experimentation will yield some good info ….

so two thumbs down so far..
it will be interesting to see how they work out.. i’d regard 10c per click to be good. Assuming i get 200 impressions/day with a 1% CTR, that should be around 20c per day, $1.40 per week or $5.60 per month..
all fairly modest figures and if that’s all they brought in it wouldn’t be worth keeping them, but hopefully they can surprise me in terms of cost per click..
