My 14th Sitepoint Listing

Defenced.com has just been put up for sale on sitepoint. It’s now my 14th site to be listed on Sitepoint.

Defenced.com ‐ 100% UNIQUE, Handwritten content, Beautiful Web 2.0 Design

My last 6 auctions have all resulted in sales and profit - proving i’m getting a lot smarter at selling. Out of my first 7 auctions, only 3 resulted in sales… the rest either had no bidders or didn’t get past the reserve price.

I’m confident defenced.com will sell for over $100. I have a BIN of $197 on it. As always, i’ll drop it gradually as time goes on if nobody bids.

I have a trust rating of 100% of Sitepoint - don’t come much better than that  Although it’s not vitally important to have a 100% clean record, it’s one less reason people have not to bid on the auction. That’s the way i see it.

As a buyer too, i know that a seller with 100% feedback from a lot of sales is gonna be ultra-reliable and far less likely to do a runner or back out of a deal than a guy with 90%. Anyway, all of the cash from this sale will be going towards my Charity Skydive Fund which should give it a nice boost.

lessons learned so far in affiliate marketing

I’ve only been running my affiliate marketing campaign for the past couple of days but already i’m learning valuable lessons.

Lesson #1 - you can’t predict what people will do…

Here’s stats for yesterday - not a single conversion from 17 clicks! WTF! The offers i’m running are simple - enter your email address and win a prize. Of the 17 people who landed on these offers, not  a single one bothered to enter their email!

Check out today’s stats so far - 1 click, 1 conversion - that’s more like it

Despite getting off to a good start, i finished up day 1 with a -15% ROI. Day 2 was a -100% ROI and day three so far is a -10% ROI.

Not a great start, but at least i’m earning something - it’s not a completely lost cause. *IF* i could manage to rank organically for my keywords, i could be taking in $1/2 per day, possibly more.

no new sites today

Shock, horror, i’ve created zero sites today

I have, however, spent $20 on sitepoint listings. One for sawurl and another for snapbone. The sawurl auction is going well, with a current high bid of $100 - just $40 off the BIN.

I’m really not overly happy selling it though… the domain name is really useful and i’ve no doubt if i had held on to it for longer and promoted it more i could have gotten a decent pagerank, traffic, members and sold for much more…

But that’s the way it goes… at the end of the day, it’s not the worst situation to be in - getting $100+ for my troubles somewhat softens the blow ;-)

My ability to turn on the style though has impressed myself. I’ve created about half a dozen unique websites within a week from out of nowhere… it all stemmed from a 15 minute brainstorming session.

They’ll have brought in over $250 once sawurl sells. That’s just over a few days… it’s a great feeling knowing that i can just sit down and work whenever i want to earn some cash - there’s not many people who can do that. Sure, it’s relatively small money i’m taking about, but i have to stress i’m by no means an expert designer or coder - in fact, i’d call myself a novice.

Once i actually learn how to write custom scripts and design properly i’ll be a dangerous money making weapon online

But money isn’t really the be all and end all, expect me to drift in and out of periods like this - if i get bored of working too much i’ll stop - the last thing i need or want is to lose interest in something i love.

It’s pretty clear now that i know how to flip sites for profit on a small scale. As they’re all custom designed, I also must have an eye for design. It’ll be very interesting to see how my big guns compare in the future - i.e BeerChief.

I don’t think i’ve ever lost money buying and selling a site - mygadgetinfo.com sold for less than what i bought it for, but it made up for that in month to month revenue. So not a bad record i have ;-)

quickest flip ever..

Yesterday, i completed petprison.com.

By ‘complete’, i mean a custom site design, some unique content etc… i said i’d be selling it and that’s exactly what i’m doing. The site is up for sale at the minute on DP forums with a BIN of $100.

If there’s no interest, i’ll lower it. I’m hoping it’ll fetch above $80 - it would mean i could probably churn out 2 or 3 sites like these every week, maybe more and expect to get ~$200 for my troubles.

From start to finish, it takes me about 4 hours to make a site like this… that includes coming up with an idea, getting a name, logo design, template design and adding content, plus installation & set up.

So really, if i was 100% motivated, i could probably produce 2 a day, mon-friday…. 10 sites. Minimum 5 in a week. But it does take a lot of work - it’s not easy… in my eyes the time spent doing all that could be invested in BeerChief. Then again, i need cash to invest in BeerChief too… so it’s all about striking a balance somewhere in the middle.
