hectic schedule right now

Right now, i’m probably the busiest i’ve ever been in terms of online work. Flooded. Swamped. Burned alive

i'm busy

The fact i can now effortlessly come up with graphics like the one above is an indication of what ‘busy’ is doing to me though. It’s making me a better designer for starters! On the one hand, it’s work morning to night – quite literally. Ok, i go swimming for an hour or two every day but that’s about it. Rest of the day is spent working.

Don’t get me wrong, that’s not a permanent lifestyle – it’s impossible for me to maintain this work rate whilst in college, which is where i am (mentally as well as physically) for about 8 months of the year. But i have a gap now over the summer and much like being stuck behind some slow driver (for 8 months), i’m feeling like i have to make up for lost time. So i now have a big open road ahead of me and i’m determined to leave this slow fool choking on my fumes as i rocket past him

The results are right here in front of you though… college can’t teach you to work hard and it can’t teach you to love something. That’s the reason why i’ll leave college in a much better position than the vast majority of people around me. I love what i do. I love IT. I’m not afraid of hard work, and i’ll work 24/7 to get things done.

Anyway, even though i’m busy, i’ll add another reminder that my free logos / cheap sites offer is still on the table. Use and abuse me whilst it’s still on  Although turnaround time is slowing down, i’m getting through things one by one and you can expect more additions to my portfolio over the next couple of weeks

Busy and loving it…

I always have projects to work on, things to do, things to learn so i really shouldn’t be idle at any stage. That’s incredibly harsh on myself but i’m determined to up my work rate and heap on the pressure.

Skydive Offer

Since i announced my skydive offer, i’ve completed 3 designs, i’m working on another and i’m also working on a website. So 5 jobs in total. No doubt there’ll be more to come ;-)

wifimapper.com

wifimapper.com is pretty much ready – i’ve a few things to tidy up and it should be good to go tomorrow (Saturday). It will be a constant work in progress though – i’ll be adding wifi hotspots to it over time, around the world… not just in Ireland/UK. Still, it’s a nice site, decent idea and again it’s been built entirely by my own fingers

Other projects

Next week, i should be meeting up face to face with people and talking about BeerChief / working out a deal for that third partner. I’ve a bit of work to do on irishgolfer.ie and i also want to spend some time creating content for theleavingcert.com – that site is getting hammered with traffic at the minute.

It always does at this time of year but tehre’s no doubt about it – the number of students logging on to the net for advice and information is increasing year on year. I have the stats to prove it. Secondary level schools and government need to get serious about online education. But i suppose i shouldn’t be complaining – all the more traffic for me and theleavingcert.com

Next week

iwantideas.com logo

Next week i hope to launch iwantideas.com too. That’s a new one for you guys – i’ve mentioned it before but never disclosed the domain name. It’s pligg based and unfortunately pligg have still yet to launch pligg 1.0. I can’t do much with the site until they do as most designers and theme developers won’t do anything until the full version is released… (i have release candidate 5 installed at the minute). I could downgrade to pligg 9.9 but i’d rather not. Instead, i’ll wait it out.

I’ll also have this skydive offer running next week and i’ll be expecting more work too.

So right now, i’m extremely busy but it’s all constructive work. I’m building a portfolio, i’m investing time in projects with potential and i’m constantly learning and sharpening my skills as i go along…

I could think of much worse things i could be spending my time on…

16 days off from tomorrow

Starting from tomorrow, i have 16 days off. It’s a chance to knuckle down and go wild with my online work.

I have a lot lined up. So much that i’m gonna struggle to find time for myself!

It Gets Crazy Busy After Keynote

  • theleavingcert.com needs work – a lot of work has been done on it, but a lot still has to be done also.
  • beerchief will start to get my attention again.
  • this blog still needs to be sorted out – a lot of loose ends need tidied up.
  • my secret partnership / golfing site needs work and i’ll be revealing it shortly too.
  • i bought a domain name for an idea i have – an idea from my 18 random ideas list – more on that later too.
  • i hope to get involved in more partnership sites as i feel i work harder on those sort of projects.

Then of course i can’t neglect college work. I have a programming assignment that needs done, i’ve a network exam as soon as i go back to college, i’ve a software support assignment to complete… whilst i do have 16 days off from college those assignments and exams will always be playing in the back of my mind – every single day until they’re done.

Moving on from college work, i then have to finish reading my 3 books which i bought a while back. I’ve gotten through one and a half so far.

I also want to set a date or put in place solid plans for that skydive i talked about last year. Then we have the regular blogging, twittering, networking on a daily basis which is more ‘play’ than ‘work’ for me at this stage though.

It’s my birthday next week too, plus i hope to head away for a night to dublin the week after next.

That’s just all the stuff i have planned off the top of my head – there’s lost more to do. Busy, busy, busy… just the way i like it

busy ending to march

I like being busy, being under pressure and right now, i can’t do much more.

College

I have just 3 weeks of college left starting tomorrow. I have all of this week to get through (feel sorry for me), then i’ve a two week break for easter, followed by two weeks of college classes, then a ‘study week’ off and then 6 exams which run from 11th to 21st May, usually a day between each exam.

So i have it pretty easy. I do have a few exams and assignments to complete this week as part of my continuous assessment mark. My overall marks are made up of about 40% CA and 60% end of term written exams.

I’m expecting about 30% out of 40% on the CA side of things which will leave me in a strong position going in to the summer exams. I have no repeats from Christmas and no subject really worries me, so i’m expecting to coast in to third year.

Partnership

Last week, i also agreed to partner up on an Irish Golfing website which i’ll name at a later date. I have no interest in golf, none whatsoever… but that is in many ways what attracted me to the project. It allows me to focus purely on things i’m good at like SEO and blogging – i won’t get distracted or de-railed by writing or researching golfing topics

The site in question is running joomla, so i’ve been busy doing my homework on joomla and have successfully upgraded the site from version 1.0 to 1.5 (latest version), plus moved the site to a new server. There’s a lot more work to be done, but it’s all coming together nicely and the site has a lot of potential.

Ubuntu

What else have i been doing? Well, as i speak i’m installing ubuntu on my old laptop… with a view to being able to dual boot XP and ubuntu. That sounds horrendously techy and i despise people who try to run 20 operating systems on a hacked mobile phone and things like that but this is part of a college assignment and i’ve no choice.

I like linux, i like ubuntu because they’re free and open source. Will i ever use them? No (not on a desktop). Everything is built for windows and works with windows so unless i’ve a really good reason to use any other operating system, i won’t be switching from windows any time soon.

Windows > MAC >everything else in an average home environment. For graphic design, film and arty types, MAC rules the roost. If RAM and power is a problem, the likes of ubuntu do the job nicely. But for mr.average, windows wins, which is why it is so dominant although i’ll concede windows dugg a grave for themselves with vista

Maxed Out

For the first time ever online, i feel like i’m actually working at full throttle. I’ve so much on my plate right now, it’s not even funny. Going back to college next month is gonna be tough – i’ll have to make some major cutbacks to my online work.

Anyway, I’ve agreed to join a 5 person team to enter a blog flipping challenge. The goal is simple… the blog that sells for the highest amount after 45 days wins.

The team get to keep all the cash, plus they get 10% of what all the other teams blogs sold for. So let’s say we sell a blog for $5000 and 10 other teams sell blogs at $1000, it would mean we’d get $6000 in total split 5 ways.

Although the money will be nice (assuming the blog will sell for over $1k, i should get about $150 minimum for my troubles), the other big advantage is getting some more contacts and hopefully forming future partnerships out of it all…

That’s just the tip of the iceberg though… i have a whole tonne of work to get through. I’ll be a relieved man once this skydive is over – not because i fear jumping out of a plane, but i’ll be relieved simply to have the competition work over with  I’ve got some cool prizes so far from some pretty big names and sites around the blogosphere, so i’m hoping that continues ($2k worth of prizes thus far).

Moving on from that, i have several sites i want and need to flip in order to take in some cash and i also have my jackpot network of sites which need to be filled with content.

BeerChief is always on my mind i’m well aware i need to keep the boot down on it. It’s always easy to say just focus on one thing at time but i like to keep myself flat out – i feel it makes me more creative as i’m always thinking and don’t have time to slack off and play games or watch TV
