my first web 2.0 design

Last night i spent literally hours downloading textures, gradients, tools and beefing up my web 2.0 design knowledge.

I’ve said before i don’t like photoshop… i don’t know what it is about photoshop, but i just don’t like it. I prefer using fireworks or illustrator.

Anyway, who needs photoshop  Here’s what i’ve put together today - a glossy, wet design for an AJAX domain name searcher something like instant domain search.

All i need now is to find a nice free script for doing that… i have a nice domain name lined up so that’s not a problem. I’m trying to get away from being labelled as a one trick wonder designer (wordpress themes) and these simple little designs are just the ticket…

I’ve now mastered the art of reflection and simplicity. Another two feathers in my cap… i still have to get my textures, gradients and colour palettes sorted though… slowly getting there on those issues….

If i can pin down this design thing AND perfect my knowledge of CSS/XHTML, all i need is programming skills in php or javascript… college *should* teach me that this year (the basics). I’m already well up on domain names and SEO plus i’m getting a foot in through the social networking door, so my skills are developing nicely.

Remember, two years ago, when i finished my leaving cert (god, it seems much longer!), i couldn’t design at all… i didn’t have a clue of xhtml or css, never heard of SEO and didn’t know how to set up a site or buy a server, transfer databases, domains etc…

Over 1000 blog posts later, dozens of domain names, various different custom designs, SEO success, 3 servers at my disposal and BeerChief nearing perfection, it hasn’t been a bad haul at all… and that’s just 2 years in ;-)
