Mr Consistent

There aren’t many blogs that last beyond a few months, and even fewer which get updated daily or weekly for that

The reason for that is because blogs are personal and anyone can set one up at no cost and no risk.

If everyone could set up a business at no cost and no risk, you’d see plenty of businesses failing and going bust as people realise they’re not cut out for it and can’t motivate themselves to work, have lost interest, are too lazy to keep it going etc..

That’s the negative side of the internet and building websites – you get the dossers who think it’s an easy touch and they can become overnight millionaires…. you also get the highly motivated and enthusiastic young gun who will stop at nothing to succeed.

Blogging is very much a hobby for me. I don’t really get paid anything for it (the odd ad sale here and there), and i don’t *have* to do it if i don’t want. So why do i keep blogging every day on this site? Why don’t i just blog on other sites and sell them or put my time in to other projects?

The main reason i blog is simply to keep a diary or history of my online work and development. To pull all of my life together in one place and be able to look back on it in the future. It’s invaluable to be able to look back in time and reflect on past failures or successes. It can only make you stronger as a person and that is after all how we make decisions – by calling on past knowledge and experience to help balance up options.

There are several other benefits, such as having an army of readers and webmasters ‘on tap’ to call upon and help you out with a problem or promoting a website etc… so a blog speeds up the communication process and connects you with more like minded brains. Synergy – where two heads are better than one.

Then of course we have an ultimate CV / life story. If an employer wants to find out stuff about me, there’s no better place to come. A whois search will probably verify my address and name, my ‘about’ page will give a brief intro to me and my life. My more personal posts will give out the way in which i think, my attitudes on various things, my favourite football club, my phone network, my car, my girlfriend, my bedroom, standard of hotels i stay in, how often i take holidays, how often i get sick, what websites i own, whether or no i’ve made friends or had any relationships turn sour….

A potential employer, before they even meet me face to face, can know a hell of a lot about me – in fact, i reckon there’s so much info about me on this blog, that i wouldn’t actually need to go for an interview if the employer did their homework.

The fact i’m open and honest about it all suggests i’ve nothing to hide and therefore i’m genuine, reliable and ‘decent’. Of course it’s a risk in that all of this personal data can be pieced together by the wrong people, but i’m more than capable of defending myself both online & offline and honesty always wins out in the end.

So that’s why i blog and why i blog consistently. The main reason though is just because i love writing and getting my thoughts down on paper – the rest is just bullshit to justify my addiction to blogging

I’m always checking back here because you update so often.

I was once contacted with a job offer by someone who had read my blog. They were impressed by my outlook on business and thought I’d be a good fit for their company.

I’m not sure anyone will ever get the same impression from my blog as they did
but it goes to show how much of an impression you can make just by writing regularly.

That’s good to hear, the beauty of it all is that if you write honestly and openly, the employer immediately gets to know you as a person, rather than by qualifications on a CV…

Attitude and people skills and stuff like that can never be judged from interviews or CV’s as it takes time to figure a person out. A blog definitely speeds up that process
