JPEGr an instant hit…

Posted on Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 at 4:47 pm

yesterday was JPEGr’s first full day under my ownership.

Despite zero advertising, it received just over 1000 hits from 170 unique visitors. What surprised me most was the location of the hit’s. An even spread across the world. Majority coming from Europe & the US but a nice scattering across the southern hemisphere also.

Hits from 33 countries worldwide. Today so far, JPEGr is on course to equal yesterdays numbers so it’s all good so far. Yesterday, 55 people registered on the site, today, 30 so far.
One concern i have is the adsense text links. Despite over 1000 page impressions, there were only 2 clicks. (low paying clicks as well). So from a revenue point of view, it’s under-performing. I may be forced to display regular/rectangular banner ads if the text link ads don’t deliver. However they blend in well with the site and i’m very reluctant to change any part of the site with a seemingly consistent traffic flow.

I’ve also hired someone to submit the site to over 100 PR4,5,6,7 & 8 directories so that should cement a low pagerank and bring in a few visitors in the process. So far, JPEGr has been an absolute steal. With a bit of advertising, it can become a reliable source of income which is exactly what I want.

Carefull. That sounds like blackhat SEO and could result in your site getting blacklisted from SERPs

Have a gander at this post by richard over at Redcardinal.ie

Also whenever you mention jpegr you should link to it to increase your inbound links. It all counts.

Be very carefull with whom you hire to do some SEO for you. I dabble myself and Richard is getting a great name for himself but if you use a dodgy contact for some short term SEO your site may get tainted in the long run.

well it’s all manual directory work to free directories, so i can’t be done by google for that. That’s simply free advertsing, however it’s also free backlinks so it’s a win-win for me. (it’s just slow, boring work.. thankfully some guy wanted the cash, so i paid him :-) )

yeah, good point about JPEGr and linking to it, i suppose it’s just laziness but i’ll have to do it more often.

yeah, i’m wary about letting anyone near my server and giving them passwords. I change passwords regularly and also do a bit of undercover research on people before i’ll talk to them. So far, everyone’s been dead on, fingers crossed it continues…

‘so i can’t be done by google for that’
I wouldn’t be so sure. Look at these search results for my name on msn (they’re the same on live.com) > http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=cormacmoylan&FORM=MSNH

For some reason MSN have dropped my blog. I don’t know why. But i do know they’re cracking down on link farming that they feel is been abused. I’m not involved in any farming, nor have i submitted my blog to any dodgy sites. I must get in contact with them and find out what’s happening.

Unless you have an inside man @ the big 3 who is feeding you information then what you’re doing with those directories could be dodgy. They could be cosher too but I would advise severe caution.

mmm, ignore that msn search result as i seem to have reappeared but i’m still missing from live.com

interesting.. well i know my other sites have had problems with msn – i.e being listed on frontpage for keywords, then dropping off completely…

thankfully, google have been consistent with my sites – always static or else slowly moving up one or two slots for keywords.

i shall look into it more and see how other sites are effected… i’m aware of certain directories which are good for PR, however i’m not sure about the negative effects.
