ImgHut.net offers free image hosting. They had placed an order with ReviewMe, so i thought i’d review the site as i have my own little image hosting site so i know what it’s like trying to beat the competition and gain exposure.
ImgHut is simple, clean and effective; exactly how it should be. You can upload an image immediately, or you can register and upload up to 6 at a time.. The domain name is short, 2 words and should be fairly easy to remember.. the .net is the only pitfall (I see the .com is just an ad landing page).
Maximum size per image is 4mb per member, which is loads. It’s 2mb if you’re not a member. Registration is free by the way. What i really like about ImgHut is the control panel. From there, you can edit the name of the image, get codes to embed it into forums/emails etc.. or download/delete the image. So you have total control over your images.
Have a look at the screen shot below which shows a variety of embedding options and even the ability to re-size the picture.
All images will also be scaled down to fit your browser, but can be viewed at full res if necessary. Images can also be rated 1-5 (star rating). It may not replace flickr or photobucket, but for a quick upload with good control over your pictures, ImgHut does the job very well indeed.
Bandwidth isn’t an issue for most blogs like this one, but if you’re really into saving a bit of fibre cable, uploading your images to these sort of image hosts are the way to go as it means you’re only hosting text. Text is much lighter and space friendly than images
so ImgHut will be more than happy to host your images, and you should be more than happy to offload that unecessary strain on your bandwidth.
