Work

restructuring my website network

gold silver bronze

Around about this time every year i start revamping sites or else building new ones. I won’t be building new ones this summer and if i do, it’ll be as part of a partnership or team. I’m simply too stretched to maintain & develop the sites on my own, building them is the easy part :smile:

Most of my sites run on wordpress, so i’ll be upgrading them all to 3.0 once it launches officially later this month and that’s when you’ll start to see them all being revamped. In a bid to gradually develop my existing sites one by one, i’ve put them in to three categories; gold, silver, bronze. Gold take priority, silver next up and bronze are left to rot until gold & silver are finished.

On the gold list we have;

theleavingcert.com

This will get major attention over the summer. It is becoming my biggest site, eclipsing even this blog and it has shown no signs of slowing down. The 2010/11 academic year is going to be huge for us. For a site that i admittedly thought had a ceiling and limited potential, it’s done pretty well so far and i don’t think it’s even hit 10% of it’s potential.

beerchief.com

I’ll spring it on you guys one of these days from nowhere. It will be going live over the summer, even though it’s about 3 years too late. Can it work? Yes. Will it work? No comment. Facebook is the problem, but i might change the concept slightly to try and open up new opportunities for it. I have actually started working on it again, but this time i’m keeping it all under wraps until launch day :smile:

chromeguide.com

Another site which has shown potential. The chrome browser just keeps gettin’ better and it’s important i capitalize on it’s growth by developing chromeguide.com in to the site i know it can be. It needs major work, major thought and that’s why it gets gold status.

technership.com

The site is already built & it’s live, i just need to metaphorically slam it down your throats and the throats of many webmaster & creative communities. So i suppose this one is a marketing job, not a development one.

On the silver list we have;

hotelsrevealed.com

a site which has shown promise and with a little work, could become a great resource for hotel bargain hunters. Needs a clearer design & objective and a better way or organizing hotels.

iwantideas.com

Nice idea, but struggled to get users (other than myself!). That said, the traffic stats were incredibly positive so all i need to do is to keep submitting ideas and people will keep visiting the site. Sounds simple, right? I’ll concede it is a bit depressing looking so i’ll try to unenergize it with a new design and an upgrade to it’s backbone.

charitybypass.com

wasn’t quite happy with this one, ever… so i’ll rebuild it using wordpress (it was previously on joomla). This one hasn’t really shown any promise at all but i’m doing it for a bit of fun and hopefully to kick start a mini community. I believe in it.

On the bronze list we have;

  • wifimapper.com
  • lucky.ie
  • all others….

These sites will probably not get completed but i may take a notion and quickly revamp one just for the hell of it and if i have time.

It’s hard to cut out sites and prioritize them, but it has to be done. I can also rotate some about and i’ve left space for new projects and this blog, so at the very least i should get all 4 ‘gold’ sites done and dusted by the time my summer ends.

It goes without saying this blog will be well looked after. It’s platinum status to me :mrgreen:
