Starting today, windows 7 is now available for pre-order on major online stores like play.com and amazon.co.uk (to EU customers). Why bother pre-ordering it? Cheaper.
Windows 7 will retail at £80 in the UK / €120 in Ireland. Right now and up until August 9th, you can pre-order it for almost half that price. I got mine for £44.97 on amazon.co.uk. In total (including delivery) it worked out at £53.56 or roughly €63 to ship to ireland).
Windows 7 comes with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on disc, which is nice as i had intended upgrading to 64 bit anyway. I already have 4 gigs of RAM in my home PC but Vista 32bit can only read 3 gigs, so as soon as i install windows 7, not only will i get the benefits of windows 7, i’ll also have another 1 gig of RAM to play with
This will be the first time i’ve ever bought an operating system. All my windows versions up until now have come pre-installed on any computer i’ve bought. I know that windows 7 is worth it though. At a knock down price, it makes sense to buy now rather than pay double the price when it launches.
Rumour has it there will be ‘family’ editions though which will allow one copy to be install on 3 seperate PC’s in a house, but i’d imagine it’ll still work out more expensive than pre-ordering 3 copies now.
