Interesting comment from a reader…
As a long time reader of this blog I won’t be coming back again, you should really focus on quality over quantity of posts. Posts here have become very poor IMO and two lines and a picture tips this off, I can’t remember the last interesting post I read here.
I know many people will disagree with me and chances are you won’t publish it but I hope you can get back to the kind of posts that attracted me to this blog. Rant over!
And this was my response….
the thing is i agree with you, and i’ve blogged about it too… (mentioned it several times in fact recently)
however, i don’t owe anything to anyone so i’ll admit i’ve given this blog a backseat whilst i focus on other things that i believe, in the long run, are better for smemon the person…
Yesterday, i got up at 7.30am (saturday), spent the day in Dublin meeting a reader of this blog and a potential client / business partner… i got paid to do it, yes, but longer term, this guy will get value for money (more than he may think)…
I arrive home at about 7pm, pretty tired to be honest… i then head out to the cinema with my girlfriend, get home about 10.30pm and relax for a while. I flick on my computer quickly, check a few emails and publish a blog post. My brain was fried at that hour so i wanted something easy to post, something quick to put together but at the same time not complete trash like a viral youtube video or something…
So i come up with the idea of a ‘stats’ post… i do it once in a while and it’s been a while since i last gave an update. Done and dusted in 5/10 minutes and i then head to bed for the night.
Now every day isn’t like that for me… but i do have a pretty packed schedule these days. So packed that i don’t even have time to sit down and think. I wouldn’t change that, but it does impact on the quality of this blog.
I refuse to back down on my ’1 post a day rule’. Doing so will make me lazy as a blogger – i know it… 1 day turns in to 2… 2 days turns in to 3 and before you know it this blog becomes scrap along with the millions of other dead blogs out there. As a blog lover myself, there’s nothing worse than coming across a blog that isn’t being updated or looked after. Blogging daily forces me to think and it shows committment, discipline etc….

There is a quantity -v- quality debate (for the readers at least), but some of my most successful posts have come from times when i’ve forced myself to blog… even when i couldn’t think of anything to blog about… for example, this, this and this.
None of those blog posts would exist had i not put myself under pressure to blog daily. So even though there may be a lot of rubbish on this blog
there’ll always be one or two successful posts that for me, were just stocking fillers really.
So i’ll continue to blog daily, even if it means losing readers… the only time i’ll stop blogging is if i get sick of it or can’t see the value in continuing… but right now, there is a method to my madness by blogging daily and although it might seem crazy… currently this blog is doing better than it’s ever done before and i’m continuing to meet people, get more work, learn more etc… none of which would have happened without this blog…
So as the old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I will try to improve quality though – now that i know there’s at least one person asking for it
