Work

getting stuff done

For the past 2 or 3 weeks now BeerChief has been moving along nicely. I’ve done a lot of talking and negotiating and generally tried to grab things by the scruff of the neck. Things had gone stale for the best part of 6 months but a major upgrade was overseen by myself today and i hope to have the entire framework in place for version 2 of BeerChief by Friday evening – this Friday (less than 48 hours away).

After that, i have to oversee exactly 21 relatively minor changes and deal with 6 different developers at a total cost of $870 which i’ll hopefully negotiate down to $700 or less. I plan on doing all of that next week (12th-16th) as it’s my last week free from college. The week after next (19th-23rd) i’ll be back at college, however the majority of the work should be complete at that stage and i plan on spending my time testing everything.

On January 27th, BeerChief will be ready to rock n roll in public for the first time. There’ll be literally hundreds of changes from the first version including a complete site redesign. I won’t reveal just yet what has sparked me in to life – i’ll wait until i’ve actually got it all done and then explain…

But the end is finally in sight and in 19 days time, the ‘when will it be ready’ questions will finally be answered once and for all. In a way the worst mistake i made was revealing the plans for BeerChief from day one – it meant i was constantly quizzed about when it would be ready and what was happening. However, revealing the plans from day 1 also put me under pressure to complete the site at some stage – it could never be left hanging as i’ll rarely back down on anything once i start it. Knowing that people are expecting BeerChief and asking about it has probably gotten BeerChief over the finish line, all be it slightly slower than expected ;-)
