I’m going well off the beaten track with this new project. It’s the sort of stuff which makes me look like a genius or an idiot. I’m prepared to make it all public though right from the beginning (because i believe i’m right and i’ve done my homework).
The domain i’ve just registered (well yesterday) is….
Now i know what you’re thinking – that domain is so long, your eyes can’t even slice it up in to words! Well to make it easier here it is in words;
is chocolate dangerous to dogs .com
It’s a total gamble on the accuracy of google’s keyword tool. If all goes according to my own plans and calculations, the site will receive over 100 unique visits PER DAY from google alone. I’ll also learn more about google’s keyword tool and the numbers it churns out. If i can begin to trust the keyword tool’s figures and get a better understanding of how they’re calculated, i can begin to turn those figures in to ‘how many people are searching for ‘x’ ‘ figures and that information is invaluable online.

According to google’s keyword tool the exact terms “is chocolate dangerous to dogs” get over 40,000 searches per month on average. That’s across the adsense network. I’ll half that figure, multiply it by 40% and divide it by 30 to get a ‘how many clicks per day can i expect if i rank number one for these terms in google’ answer.
That’s the plan. The answer would work out at around 267 which i feel isn’t accurate – i’ll be delighted if it is
But i just can’t see that happening… according to my own vague formula, that’s what i should expect. So to bring those figures down to more realistic ones i’ve added more stats in to the equation. This time from wordtracker’s keyword tool.
If i work my magic on wordtracker’s figures, i can expect 23 searches per day if i rank no.1 for “is chocolate dangerous to dogs” on google. More realistic but this time perhaps too low… from doing my homework i think the site will get more than that…
So my target figures will be an average of google and wordtracker numbers. That works out at 152 clicks/visits per day. Still sounds a tad high, but i’ll see how it goes.
My job now is to build the site quickly and add content ASAP in order to get it ranking in google. Once i get to no.1 spot, i’ll hang on to the site and then sell it, hopefully, as a ready made niche for someone to tap in to.
If it fails, i’m out $8.99, i look stupid, i learn from mistakes and i’ve wasted time. I don’t want any of that and i don’t expect it.
Time and effort wise, this will be an easy site to create and look after. Competition is fairly weak, i have the dot com name for the terms i want so i should have enough in my locker to take this site to no.1 in google quickly.
My jackpot network test site is also a test of the keyword tools accuracy but it’s a much longer term project and there’s much tougher competition to get past. It’s ranking number 12 at the minute having been all over the shop for the couple of weeks.
