Work

decisions, decisions…

I put theleavingcert.com up for sale a few days ago for a few reasons;

  • to get some extra cash in, it’s worth ~$600 imo.
  • because i didn’t feel i could add anything more to it (as i’m no longer a leaving cert student myself)
  • i was fed up of having to point out it’s not a formal/professional site – it’s all opinion

I’ve had to reject 8 bids, the highest of which was $150. I’m not a complete idiot, i’ve been around long enough to know what a site is roughly worth. Of course i’ll overestimate the value of all of my own, but in general i’m never too far off the mark. As a rule of thumb, i get 75% of what i think a site is worth and that’s what it’s REALLY worth :mrgreen:

So that $600 becomes $450, but i’d be reluctant to sell it even at that. The auction is now closed anyway but this is a site i’m really not keen on selling… it’s a tricky one for me…

They say keyword domains are like gold dust, and can only rise in value… theleavingcert.com is a keyword domain. Approximately 50k students sit the leaving cert every year…

More and more students now have internet access at home and are going online to look for help. So it’s difficult to try and sell something that you know has potential.

But i don’t like letting sites ‘rot’, so if i’m to keep it, i need to do more with it… i *did* convert it to wordpress not so long ago, which helped a great deal (search engine wise). But to do more will require thought, time and probably some sort of investment.

So i’ll hang on to it for another while, i do have ideas which i believe would work, but finding the time to do something about it with BeerChief on the way – i’m not sure i can squeez it in.

Watch this space though ;-)
