keep on rollin’

So yesterday, after a pretty long period of nothingness, i churned out my first niche site in managefuel.com.

Today, i put it up for sale on sitepoint. A BIN of $297. Steep? Perhaps, but i did spend quite a bit of time working on it. It should fetch over $150 at least, so if things don’t go well i’ll drop the BIN.

ManageFuel.com for sale †Great domain †100% UNIQUE content, beautiful theme

Never content to settle with what i have, i’ve finished a second niche site – famousnerd.com. It has a bit more content, probably of a higher standard overall and the theme looks pretty slick i have to say ;-) All nice an AJAXy which i love.

So i guess i’m on a bit of a roll now… as i’ve said before, i have a few dozen of these sites to get up and running so i have my work cut out ;-)

In other news, looks like there’s a big cock up with my college registration. I *should* be allowed register for 2nd year, but i’ve been told i can’t until i get the results of my repeat maths exam. Other people in the same boat are allowed register  I did ring them up today trying to explain the situation but didn’t get anywhere… i’ll be ringing again tomorrow and hopefully going up to register.

why can’t i do this every day?

I have to admit, i love the feeling of ‘completing’ something. Whether it’s an assignment for college, a to-do list, a blog or a website…. it’s the same feeling and it’s a fantastic feeling.

I’ve managed to put together my first niche site in quite some time – managefuel.com.Expect to see it up for sale shortly. I’ve just been so busy recently i’ve struggled to make any sales or flips.

Believe it or not, i have about 40 of these sort of sites to develop and sell. I WILL get through them all… it’s just a case of how quickly.

I can’t automate building a site from start to finish, it must always have unique content and some sort of custom design/logo. But what i’m starting to do now is outsourcing content creation. I’ve had mixed results with it in the past, but recently i’ve found one or two really top class writers at decent prices (not talking about the managefuel.com content by the way.)

Content creation is a huge drain on my time and it’s not something i enjoy doing (apart from this blog). If i can pay someone to do it and still make a healthy profit from it all, it makes sense to outsource. So that’s what i’m starting to do as i’ve basically been forced in to it (as i’ve no time).

So that’s one down… about 39 to go

Bank details of 1m people sold on Ebay

You know all those laptops with sensitive unencrypted information that seem to go missing every week? Well, one was sold on ebay for £35

Now that’s good business – 1 million personal records for £35… could easily be flipped for 10 times that on sitepoint

Just a few days ago, a usb stick containing names, addresses and release dates of 84,000 prisoners was ‘lost’.

Honestly lads, there’s some government official in the UK just flogging all this stuff on ebay and probably writing an ebook on it all while he goes along

Someone over here in Ireland has seen the money to be made too… there seems to be some sort of England -v- Ireland International ‘who can lose the most data challenge’ going on that we don’t know about

Maxed Out

For the first time ever online, i feel like i’m actually working at full throttle. I’ve so much on my plate right now, it’s not even funny. Going back to college next month is gonna be tough – i’ll have to make some major cutbacks to my online work.

Anyway, I’ve agreed to join a 5 person team to enter a blog flipping challenge. The goal is simple… the blog that sells for the highest amount after 45 days wins.

The team get to keep all the cash, plus they get 10% of what all the other teams blogs sold for. So let’s say we sell a blog for $5000 and 10 other teams sell blogs at $1000, it would mean we’d get $6000 in total split 5 ways.

Although the money will be nice (assuming the blog will sell for over $1k, i should get about $150 minimum for my troubles), the other big advantage is getting some more contacts and hopefully forming future partnerships out of it all…

That’s just the tip of the iceberg though… i have a whole tonne of work to get through. I’ll be a relieved man once this skydive is over – not because i fear jumping out of a plane, but i’ll be relieved simply to have the competition work over with  I’ve got some cool prizes so far from some pretty big names and sites around the blogosphere, so i’m hoping that continues ($2k worth of prizes thus far).

Moving on from that, i have several sites i want and need to flip in order to take in some cash and i also have my jackpot network of sites which need to be filled with content.

BeerChief is always on my mind i’m well aware i need to keep the boot down on it. It’s always easy to say just focus on one thing at time but i like to keep myself flat out – i feel it makes me more creative as i’m always thinking and don’t have time to slack off and play games or watch TV

how good is my crystal ball?

A couple of weeks ago, i had a look at some domains coming up for auction on bido.com and put my own price on them along with estibot‘s appraisal value. I said i’d revisit the results, but my plans were blown to pieces after bido.com hit the self destruct button.

Bido basically couldn’t cope with the insane traffic spikes it was getting and had to cancel the auction for fixedloans.com twice… they’re still repairing the damage.

Anyway, they did manage to sell 6 other domains, so here’s what they sold for, what i valued them at and what estibot valued them at.

So as you can see, surprisingly, i under valued the domains. Had they all been mine, i probably would have been happy with $2k for all of them. Just goes to show how i would have sold myself short

Estibot on the other hand over valued them. Not surprising really as it’s a robot and works of statistics and numbers whereas i just work of gut instinct

So what this tells me is that i’m pretty modest with domain valuations and i should perhaps trust estibot more than i do. I’ve said previously whatever value estibot gives me, i’ll get 1/20th of it for safe measure.

Anyway, once bido get back up and running i’ll continue this little experiment as i’d like to be able to accurately put a price on any domain I come across. It will help me greatly when buying and selling sites/domains.
