Work

the morning after adsense banning..

i’m still bitter about my adsense account being banned. Why, after 9 months, would i start clicking my own ads or telling people to click my ads? Surely if there were numerous clicks from the same IP, google would have the cop on to refund those clicks and warn me, so that at least i could install tracking software or put extra measures in place to ensure i know it’s happening and stamp it out in the future. After all, i’ve earned google and myself about $500 in total, so it’s in their best interests to keep my account alive or at least work with me on any problems..

Yesterday, there was nothing i could do.. it was a case of 1 strike and you’re out. I can’t control user behaviour and having got on fine for 9 months, why would i start encouraging people to click ads or click them myself? It’s beyond me

So let this be a lesson to anyone running adsense – ANYONE can be banned, even you’ve done nothing wrong. If you don’t have software to track clicks, get it or else you could end up like me. I used to think people got banned from adsense for being stupid noOBs by clicking on their own ads, sending ads in emails etc.. Well, that’s obviously not the case.

It seems google don’t forgive or give you a second chance.. (even though i’m innocent  ). I still await their reply to my appeal, but with no evidence to prove my innocence, i’m resigned to the fact they’ll not budge. I won’t forget this, and google have certainly lost some respect over this from myself. I understand how Adsense works and how stats can fluctuate daily… if they *seem* ok to me, how is it my fault for not acting on supposedly invalid clicks? – especially as i can’t tell if they’re invalid.

I’m still combing through all my sites stats at the minute, but it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack.. i can’t tell which IP clicked ads and which didn’t, so it’s virtually impossible for me to supply any evidence of click fraud

I can’t dwell on this forever though.. if adsense don’t change their verdict, i’m simply going to move on, i’m not going to argue a case without any stats as backup. It’s very annoying, obviously, but what can i do about it? – Nothing, only fire away ‘i’m innocent’ emails.

So there will be major changes on my sites because of this.. i’ll have to check out other networks and see which can best match adsense.

It’s possible you have been banned not because of someone multiple-clicking on your adverts, but rather because you were publicly sharing information about the revenue you were generating via Adsense. I have a vague recollection of hearing somewhere that that’s frowned on in their terms and conditions. Consider it anyways.

highliy unlikely, they changed that rule a while back and last time i checked it was ok to declare your earnings. I’ve also blanked out CTR and number of clicks, anytime i’ve presented my earnings, so it would be extremely harsh to ban me straight out over that – a warning would suffice.

anyway, i can only go by the email they sent me and that specifically states:

“It has come to our attention that invalid clicks and/or impressions
have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s)”.

so the only logical reason from my point of view (knowing i haven’t participated in any fraud) is that i’ve been click bombed or someone has strategically clicked ads on my sites daily for weeks or something – again i doubt this as my earnings can range from $0 to $4 and traffic also fluctuates.

Wow – good luck with the appeal! I’ve been meaning to install click-monitoring software for a while and now it’s moved way up my priority list. Hopefully you can find affiliate programs and other ad revenue sources to make up the difference.

Have you had anyone else click the ads? or do you know of anyone else (i.e. people you know) clicking the ads?

If someone you know, for example, has clicked an ad for you and you’ve logged in to adsense on that machine they will know. (It’s also pretty obvious for them to check browsing patterns to spot ‘friends clicks’)

The only way I can see you getting back in is by admitting (try and think.. you’ll get nowhere looking through logs!) apologising and promising it wont happen again. (I’ve heard of others getting back in through that)

Appealing and saying “it wasn’t me” won’t work!
