always read the small print..

My bank account will be €50 worse off than i thought it would be this month. Why?

Because i never read the small print on something I signed my name to a year ago.

I went to cancel my lesiure club membership a few days ago.. at €50 month, it’s a luxury item that i can do without and as i’m trying to cut back on expenses going to college, it was the easiest thing to stroke off my expenses list.

So in i go, telling them i want to cancel it (my year is up next week). To my horror they said they needed one month’s notice, plus a signed letter from me stating i want to cancel my direct debit

As payment is taken out on the 15th of every month, i’ve no option but to pay another €50 and stay on another month  I had a look at the contract i signed and i did indeed state i need to give written notice well in advance…

So being lazy and not reading the small print has cost me €50  I suppose i do get a bit of luxury for another month, but it’s €50 i’d prefer to have in my back pocket

Now i could be evil and transfer all funds out of my main account into another account  but that might get me into trouble down the line if the bank think i’ve missed payments.. it could be a factor when getting mortgage, loans etc.. so it’s not worth the risk for the sake of €50.

For the sake of 50? Of course it’s not worth it. Even without reading small print, with paid memberships of any kind you should always expect something in the fineprint that makes a person go through a little hoop to cancel.

Why not look on it in a positive and more entrepreneurial mindset kindof way and get your moneys worth for the month and use it as much as you can?

you’re right Alan  no point in complaining about it.. just have to deal with it and enjoy it for another month..

it’s also experience.. learning the hard way – never to trust/expect common sense or goodwill from people who get you’re bank acount details
