I’ve just installed a plugin called ‘linklove’ and customized it so that anyone with 3 comments or more, will automatically have a ‘do-follow’ link added to their comment url. So if you’ve commented more than 3 times on this blog, you’ll automatically have ‘do-follow’ applied to your links from now on

ifollowcomment Adding Do Follow to comments

This is to ‘give back’ to the readers, but i’m reluctant to add do-follow to all comment links as that encourage ‘hit and run’ comments where people comment simply for a link. At least if they have to comment 3 times it cuts down on spam.

Basically ‘no-follow’ and ‘do-follow’ comments tell the search engines to follow that link, or not to follow it. So a ‘do-follow’ link is more valuable from an SEO point of view as search spiders then crawl your page and can also pass pagerank/value to your page from the comment. Mind you, google aren’t my friends lately so there may be little value in a link from this blog

By default, wordpress adds ‘no-follow’ to all comments to help protect blogs against spam. I’m against this as i believe readers should be rewarded for reading and engaging in discussion, not punished. By ‘no-following’ all links, the spammers are spoiling the party for us all, and we can’t let that happen.

I’ve been too lazy to actually do anything about it or tackle it head on up until now. But with the new theme in place, it’s the right time to make changes and make the blog bigger and better in anyway possible. This is a little change, which i’m sure all my readers will appreciate. The risk is of course leaving myself open to spam and believe me, i don’t want any more spam as i have to moderate plenty of pending comments… any comment with 2 or more links in it, gets sent to me before it goes live – 99% of these are indeed spam, but the odd one or two are genuine.

I’ve done much better than last week… i’ve completed the timetable for mon-fri, which involved making 10 blog posts; 1 across each of my network of blogs

I have tomorrow off and then it’s 2 more posts on sunday and that’s mission complete. My aim is to have about 10-15 blog posts on each blog. I’ll then decide whether to sell them all or keep some and develop them.

It’s tough work trying to find relevant material, get videos, pull it all together and make sure it displays correctly. Most of the posts contain videos so you could say they’re not really unique content as such, but then again they’re all niche sites, so although the material may not be 100% unqiue, the way it’s pulled together (the niche) is.

And don’t forget these blogs have been designed with selling them on in mind, so i’m not trying to win awards, i’m simply trying to get them all to the stage where they all have respectable, revelant content and the niche has been established somewhat.

It’s easy to buy a domain and put up a blog, make a post and then sell it on as a niche site but it’s much better having 10+ posts on the topic as it becomes an ‘established’ site, rather than a ‘new site’.

Anyway, here’s this weeks posts:

I’ve just noticed PayPerPost have said they will be adding a ‘no-follow’ option for all advertisers to put on ads (source).

This means those particular ads will be ‘google friendly’ and will place the blame in advertisers own hands should they get slapped by Google once again by being de-listed in the search results for example. (For more background on this subject look here, here and here).

At the same time, PayPerPost have introduced ‘RealRank’ which apparently is doing quite well for them, with 60% of advertisers using it since it’s introduction. RealRank is basically a measure of how strong your blog is, measure by traffic, quality etc.. I’ve just added the RealRank code on this blog, so i’ll see what sort of ranking i get in a few days time once it kicks into effect.

So it’s a case of check mate as far as PayPerPost are concerned. They’ve responded to Google’s war on paid links/blogs and in fairness to them, are doing their best to protect their members, whilst trying to comply with Google’s policies.

Whilst i’m sure google will be happy they’ve managed to force the issue somewhat, i think deep down Google will still want rid of these networks as it’s hurting their own ad revenue – or at least that’s the way i think they see it.

I arrived home today to find a new laser/debit/maestro (whatever you call it) card awaiting me.

laser just got a laser/debit card

Did i order one? No

I’ve just been given it automatically as my bank is ‘updating their services’.

This is the same bank, that 18 months ago, refused my credit card application despite me having more savings with them than i’ve ever had before or since. Eventually i got a credit card after much arguing.

So today, i get thrown a laser card, no questions asked, for no reason. Nice the way they do that just when your balance is at a low point

So even more ways to spend what little money i have. You generally can’t buy anything online with a laser card (which is stupid). It takes money directly out of your bank account and won’t allow you to take out an overdraft so basically it’s a ‘debt-proof credit card’ in that you can’t build up debt on it and don’t pay interest.

To celebrate one year in blogging i’ve recently launched my new design and promised various competitions.

Well, i’ve got 4 button ads on the sidebar, as you can see, in a prime location. One of them could be yours for all of December – FREE.

I’ll also be adding two text links into the sidebar, underneath those button ads, so in total 6 links up for grabs.

What do you have to do to get them? It’s simple.

All you have to do is guess how many unique visitors on this site i get for November, according to my Google Analytics stats. The nearest 6 guesses get the ads

Rules:

  • To enter, you just comment here with your guess on this post.
  • I’ll take your first guess only as you may not enter several guesses
  • Contest closes on Dec 2nd 9pm and winners announced then.
  • I have final say on all links/images (no porn or warez etc..)
  • All ads last until Jan 1st and will then be removed.
  • Closest 2 guesses have first refusal on text or image ads.
