mylovelybrick launched…

my latest site; my lovely brick

has been launched. It won’t be a success, i don’t expect to sell many spaces and i’m almost certain it will fall flat on it’s face.

why did i set it up then? To test reaction. I want to see what people think of it – the name, idea, layout, style, cost… everything.

It’s another site to add to my ever growing collection and again showcases my ability as a freelance web designer.

how to learn web design…

i get asked this quite a bit.

“That must take ages to build”, “How can i do this…”, “How did you learn all you know”…

well, the answer is simple – hard work. You can’t build a website and maintain it without knowing the basics. You MUST know basic html above all else. You can’t simply switch roles and web user to web designer without work and knowledge of internet languages.

There is user-friendly software out there to develop sites (blogs for example are pretty handy to set up), joomla is a free web design program.. But imo, you can’t even use that without having basic knowledge of HTML.

You definately can’t make money out of a website if you don’t know how to add adsense, affiliate links, text link ads etc…

However once you’re at the stage i’m at, you can read tutorials, create custom 2.0 built sites using photoshop and generally have a pretty decent website without actually knowing the hardcore code.

it’s remarkable easy to install forums / shopping carts etc.. sure there are always little problems – but that’s why you need to know basic HTML, because you’ll have to fix those problems.

my advice, if you’re interested in web design – is to get dreamweaver & photoshop and download a few free templates.. mess about with text/colour and eventually you’ll learn enough to hack it with the rest of us. Practice makes perfect as the say.

My latest toy…

I’ve just ordered a set of Shure e3c’s.

e3c's

These bad boys are what the professional musicians use, delivering studio-quality sound – blowing away all competition earphones.

They use sound insolating technology which effectively cuts out noise from around you and works as ear muffs as well as earphones. They retail for about €180 here in Ireland, but i’ve seen them priced at over €250 (that’s rip off Ireland for you). Needless to say, an experienced internet shopper like myself knows how and where to get them at a fraction of that price. *cough ebay*

i’ll post up a full review once i get them… mixed with my creative audigy 2zs notebook soundcard, the result should be pretty sweet to say the least.

Anway, what has this got to do with my internet entrepreneurship? It will give me added motivation by delivering music like i’ve never heard it before. Music imo, is a massive mood tool. It changes the way you feel and thus can change the way you think.

The benefits of working online…

just to inspire me and you to furthur success… i thought i’d compile a list of advantages of being your own boss on the internet;

  • all profit is yours.
  • can start/leave work at any time.
  • can take holidays/breaks at any time.
  • no distractions.
  • no annoying customers.
  • you get all the credit for everything.
  • no traveling to work
  • no putting on a uniform/suit
  • can be working in the bath/garden/watching TV/in bed…
  • can mix work with pleasure with the flick of a button.
  • laugh at people who earn less and work harder than you.
  • get to give yourself the fancy title of ‘internet entrepreneur’.

it’s hard work at first, but once a few successful sites are up an running, you earn while you sleep – 24/7.

DREAM JOB imo.

work on timeadahalf.com has begun…

over the past couple of days, i’ve teamed up with another entrepreneur and we’ve been ironing out any cracks that appeared in the idea and trying to get the actual site started.

this will be my first attempt at a money-spinning website and hopefully, all will go to plan. I’m not necessarily in this for the money, but also exposure and experience. Hopefully the site will be a success and i can claim to co-own and develop a successful website. That should then open a few more doors for me.
this site has the potential to stir up controversy so it’s important we lay down a set of comprehensive terms and conditions. Most of the writing has been done and now it’s just a case of pulling everything together and coding the site.
