I’m just about to hit the sack now, after hours and hours of messing about with this blog..
To cut a long story short i paid someone $5 to move everything for me after getting frustrated trying to do it myself..
Something then possessed me to change the charset values from latin1 to utf8.. not a simple task, especially for someone with my experience (or lack of it).
So basically, i fecked up the database and spent a couple of hours trying to put it back together again. Eventually i got there. I also got the charset values set to utf8 in the end
For anyone with a similar problem, what i did was copied the database to my desktop, opened it with wordpad then ‘found and replaced’ ‘latin1′ with ‘utf8′… then i uploaded it back.. but it wasn’t as smooth as that in reality
Anyway, the end result of todays work is that the blog is now fast. As fast as it’s ever been. 0-60kb’s in 1.6 seconds, so says iwebtool.com. The only problem i now have is that the ‘€’ sign is replaced by ‘?’. I thought changing the charset values would repair that but apparently not.. i’ll look into that more but tbh it’s not a major issue as i can manually edit it and i’m just glad to have everything back to normal
